Reverie

Reverie is a world. Reverie is a fictional game. Reverie is a novel by SlyPrincess.

Reverie is a VR game that exists in a modern world very similar to our own.

One where everything feels real thanks to a patented drug called VRsimilitude.
Reverie is a fantasy world filled with magical spirits and arcane pacts.
One where our reality is a fictional concept that curses adventurers.
Both of those statements contradict each other.
Both are true.

The Story

Reverie ~ A Fairie’s Pact by SlyPrincess

A kinky sapphic trans novel about becoming a Fairie’s pet and a video game’s victim.

Both of these synopsis contradict each other. Both are true.
Faonari is an elven adventurer in the fantasy world of Reverie who has recently become afflicted by a Realitycurse. Haunted by visions of a modern world where magic isn’t real and people are forced to work through chronic pain by transphobic bosses. Thankfully Aurelia, a beautiful manipulative fairie fey, knows just how to help her. Unfortunately it involves conditioning, experimenting, flirting, predatory deal making, taking her soul, and turning her into a bonded enthralled familiar.
Meanwhile. In a modern world similar to our own, Reverie is trans girl Riley’s favorite VR game. Thanks to a patented drug, it feels like she’s really Faonari. Lately though, she’s been having strange interactions with a fairie npc. As she falls deeper into Aurelia’s clutches it begins to feel like maybe Reverie is the real world, instead of this one. After all, it sure beats the rest of her life.

The Themes

Wish fulfillment is an addictive substance, especially to those in desperate need of escapism. Trans women in particular seem very drawn into imagined worlds. Is it any wonder given the world we face? In particular, fantasies where suffering is acknowledged (even if it is made worse) feel like a very potent form of kryptonite to myself, my friends and my peers.

I wanted to write a story that has a conversation with and about that feeling, while also aspiring to provide it at the same time. I aspire to create a story where readers feel a growing sense of yearning the more they read, accompied by increasing questions about what we lose when we go all in on escapism.

Theres also a level of deliberate ambiguity to the story that I play with vis a vis the dual perspectives. My goal is to invoke the leap of faith taken when we decide to transition, and juxtapose that with the loss to our communities when we fail to stand along side each other and choose to tune it all out. It’s a dual narrative acting as a dual symbol.

Some of the big inspirations for Reverie are (in no particular order): Westworld, I Saw The TV Glow, The Matrix, Ready Player One (I found it a struggle so tried to take lessons on what didn’t work for me), Human Domestication Guide Community Setting (many stories but especially Good Sensory and Dog of War), WARHOUND, Empty Spaces, Spirited Away, C.S Lewis, The Legend of Zelda.

The Setting

There are other stories within the Tales of Reverie Setting, written by amazing authors and my dear friends. I’ve compiled them in this collection.

The Author

SlyPrincess is an author, elf, bunny and doll who has been creating escapist fantasies since she was a little boy. This specific fantasy began to form as a proto-setting used in TTRPG games beginning in 2021. She began writing stories for others to read in 2024, primarily in the Human Domestication Guide Setting. Now she’s writting about Reverie!
